With so many places to go, we decided to use Synthesio, our Social Intelligence platform, to see what the top five Valentine’s Day getaway locations are for 2018.
Our results were calculated by pulling in data from thousands of media channels and cross-comparing their volume and sentiment. We analyzed top hashtags, retweets, demographics, and psychographics to gain insight into who picked each destination for their Valentine’s Day getaway and why. Based on the social data collected, we’ve compiled a list of the most talked about places to go with your significant other.
New York City
71% of Valentine’s Day posts mentioned New York – making it the favorite spot for early holiday planners. Top hashtags related to Valentine’s day included #NYC with 890 mentions and #NewYork with 473 mentions across social media platforms. New York is world famous for its fine dining and food is what most Valentine’s planners talked about most when mentioning The Big Apple. Our data shows that the most talked about places include Momofuku Nishi, Flora Bar and The Grill. Be sure to make a reservation, these popular restaurants get booked fast.
Paris
What better way to send your Valentine’s Day getaway than in the city of love and romance. Our Social Intelligence ranks Paris as the second most popular Valentine’s Day destination with 14.89% share of voice. Our data indicates that our Paris traveler also has very specific places in mind to take their significant other this Valentine’s Day – with Disneyland Paris topping the list of most talked about travel activity in France. On the opposite end of the spectrum, romantics talked about planning holiday dinners at top restaurants: Le Cliq, L’Astrance, Restaurant Michel Rostang, or L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon – Saint-Germain.
San Francisco
Our Social Intelligence ranks San Francisco as the third most talked about Valentine’s Day getaway destination at 6.22% SOV. San Francisco couples have plenty of activities in mind for their trip including visiting the Embarcadero waterfront, taking a dinner cruise with Hornblower cruises and events, and luxury shopping in Union Square.
Venice
Venice, Italy garnered 2.5% of the overall share of voice thanks to its famous gondolas and canals. Valentine’s planners interested in Venice look to submerge themselves in Italian culture with visits to the Gothic Doge’s Palace and the St. Mark’s Basilica Bell Tower. Museums, gelato bars, picnics at sunset, and dinners at the finest Venetian restaurants: Alle Testiere, Antiche Carampane, and Corte Sconta were also high on the lists of those looking to travel to Italy for an authentic European adventure.
Savannah
Rounding out the list, just behind Venice is Savannah, Georgia with 2.1% of the overall share of voice. Our data indicates that our Savannah traveler also has sightseeing and places in mind to take their partner this holiday. The most talked about travel activities online were history tours, visiting the city market, cathedral of St. John the Baptist, river street for shopping and galleries, and Tybee Island. Where are people thinking of having their romantic Valentine’s Day dinner? Our social data indicates that majority of people are talking about Noble Fare, Olde Pink House, and Good Times Jazz Bar & Restaurant.
